How would you feel if you were constantly being told off for doing something wrong at work but no one had ever shown you the right way to do the task? You’d feel upset, frustrated, demotivated and stressed wouldn’t you?
Now think about a dog that is being shouted at for jumping up at the kitchen counter when their owner is cooking. How does the dog feel? They have never been taught what they should do instead, they haven’t had the chance to get things right!
Our dogs want to please us, they want to get things right but we need to teach them what they need to do rather than punishing them for doing things we don’t like.
Give them a chance, teach them acceptable behaviours, make learning a positive experience and reward them for getting things right.
